Mouse Torture Time

Posted by D'Lan on November 6, 1998 I noticed that my mouse was not moving smoothly, I could feel a slight grinding as I nudged him around the mouse pad. Out with the Q-tip (small cotton ball on a stick), the alcohol, a small brush, and a lint free cloth. Flipping my mouse on his back, a quarter turn to the left of the access cover reveals the trackball. (please- no ribald remarks, my mouse is very bashful) Dumping the ball out allows me to clean the three places gunk builds up on the rollers. A fore and aft roller, a sideways roller, and an idler roller. The gunk is usually in the form of a ring around the rollers. I use the Q-tip in alcohol (just damp, not dripping) to wipe off those rings, then a brush to brush the flecks of grit that accumulate inside the retaining ring, and then carefully wipe the ball with a lint-free cloth dampened with alcohol. I think my mouse likes the treatment, because upon reassembly, he runs as smoothly as when he was new. D'Lan |
