Border Scripts

For quickly adding borders and vignettes.

These include standard keyline and matte scripts. Each takes note of the current dimensions of the image and acts appropriately.

Includes some nice treatments such as black and white vignettes.

Fade to mono edges is quite nice to apply to landscapes and similar where you want the main subject to be the focus point and the edges to be less distracting.

Most of these scripts create the mattes and keylines on new layers, so they are non-destructive.

Colour Treatments

Rich colours and saturation tools in this section.

Richness is a particular favourite of mine. The saturation scripts really boost saturation without the image breaking up.

The warmup is just what you need to bring the sunshine out.

Special Effects

Treatments to make your image something different.

Two different types of Infrared treatments (depends on your source image).

Cross-processing treatments, these will give quite a strong effect that you can then fade back to taste.

Make-Mirror does what it says - great for creating interesting backgrounds, it's amaing what the eye sees in the "join" of reflections.

Deforms, Layers and Utilities

These are great little utilities for speeding up your use of PSP.

For example, deform-to-fit resizes the current layer to be the same size as the overall image. Great when dropping in a new background for example.

The layers set is very simple, but very effective - I use these all the time:

  • Multiply - rescues over-exposed images
  • Screen - rescues under-exposed images
  • Softlight and Overlay - for really punchy images
  • Softscreen and others - assorted variations on soft-focus
  • Topmask - creates a graduated mask revealing the top of the image - use with Multiply to darken skies for example

Utility scripts include quick labelling scripts and splitting images out to RGB layers.

  • Monochrome Collection

Where to start? Monochrome means far more than black and white and there are so many ways of achieving different monochrome images.

For example, which colour channels would you choose for a female portrait, rather than a mail portrait?

Want to create split-tone images? How about all the variations on sepia toning?

    Photo Treatments

All the tools you need to enhance your images as they come from your digi-cam.

Several treatments for managing shadows and high-lights, in particular bringing the detail out in shadows and whites.

Some really clever treatments for adding punch and sharpness to images. This includes enhancing sharpness with contrast masks - one of the most sophisticated and smart ways of sharpening an image.

Revisits to the one-step photo-fix that gives you much better results than the PSP standard.

    Photo Toners

First of all we have warm-up, cool-down and colour correction scripts, with non-destructive and easily controlled layers.

Then we have toners which emulate old style print tones, such as palladium, gold and copper tones.

Variations on sepia toning, including split-toned sepias, choose the sepia effect that works for your particular image.

    Treatments and Effects

A fascinating collection of scripts from the sublime to the surreal.

Some emulate really interesting traditional colour treatments such as bleach bypass and heavy duty cross-processing techniques.

Others added richness and vibrancy to an image, creating warm and luxorious images.

I've also included treatments to match old fashioned lith printing and contrast tools for outrageous results.

    How I Use These Scripts

All of the scripts are broken down into different groups, so they are easy to find using the drop-down script selector.

But for me I've heavily customised my PSP user interface, binding the scripts and adding them to menus and toolbars.

Now most of what I do in PSP is all driven by single button clicks. For example, those layer controls which I use to quickly enhance and correct image exposures all are on single buttons so I can correct an image in seconds.

The less frequently used collections, such as the special FX are all on a drop-down menu, so I can scan through the collection quickly and simply.

    My favourites are:

  • Most of the layer utiities, including the duplicate layers and topmask
  • Some of the mono layers, especially the mono-male, and mono-female scripts
  • A specific collection of saturation and sharpness scripts
  • A small number of vignettes
