I've always liked those very gritty looking backgrounds. Now usually these are
real life photo's this being the only way to get that natural gritty, grainy,
organic sort of look.
The trouble is, the colour schemes are not always what I want, so after much
experimentation I've come up with this trick using Eye Candy's Jiggle filter.
Example 1:
- Take one image, the larger the better.
- Make a smaller selection inside the image of the size you will finally need.
You need to make this selection anyway, even if your image is the right size, because the Eye Candy
Jiggle filter introduces artifacts at the edges of the image otherwise.
- Now call up Eye Candy, Jiggle. Set all the values to 90 and the motion to "Turbulence".
- Your first application will have a sort of landscapy or watery look to it.
- Repeat 2 or more times until it gets real grainy.
More Examples:
- It really doesn't matter what the start image is, any semblance of the picture is soon lost.
- For the web page here, the images are small, but the effect works better on larger images
- If you start to lose the colour range you want, just scribble some more of the colour you want and keep going.
Selected Shape Example:
- This filter is even more interesting if you start out with a selected shape.
Make sure the selection is on its own layer to achieve the break down in the edges.
