Using Modes for Effects

Step 1:

  1. Create a new image (200 x 50, Vibrant Purple on Black)
  2. Add some text

Step 2:

  1. Copy the text layer and paste it back in as a new layer (Ctrl-C, Ctrl-L)
  2. Use Colours, Negative on the top layer
  3. If your version doesn't look close to this, try moving the text layer so it nearly overlaps the lower layer

Step 3:

  1. Set the layer blend mode to "Difference"

Step 4:

  1. Apply a heavy (Radius 4) Gaussian blur to the top text
