Pen Pads, Photos and Layers

Adding body paint or similar effects to a photo is frankly a doddle if you use layers.

Step 1:

  1. Take an original image
  2. Create a new layer above it. You should still be able to see your original image in the layer below.

Step 2:

  1. In the new layer, paint in black to create your new face paint.
  2. Because you are working in a new layer, you can remove any mistakes or trials by simply erasing the offending pixels.
  3. I find working with the Wacom Pen Pad, with pressure sensitivity set to width gives me greatest flexibility here.
  4. Now, what you'll see is that your new black paint is very obviously painted on. You need to apply a gaussian blur to your new layer, just to fuzz the edges and blend them more realistically to your photo.

Step 3:

  1. Final image looks like this.
