Copper Plate

Step 1:

  1. Create a new image, 200 x 100, 64M colours
  2. Set foreground white, add text
  3. Apply Noise: 100%, random

Step 2:

  1. Apply motion blur, 90 degrees, 10 pixels
  2. Convert to greyscale and convert back to 64M colours

Step 3:

  1. Apply Greg's Pool Shadow. Adjust to taste, but you will probably want to reduce the intensity a lot, try 25.
  2. You will probably need to adjust the brightness, drop it down by 10.
  3. Finally, add the colour, Shift-U for RGB with Red=20, Green=10, Blue=0

Step 4:

  1. Just add a little drop shadow to taste.
  2. Or repeat the whole process on a background image to make a button.

However, making the two coppers standout against each other can be tricky. Try selecting the text, inverting the selection, adding drop shadow. Tightening up the opacity and blur on the shadow will give it a harder edged look.
